Abstrakcyjne malarstwo Kamy Model z Gdańska i Agaty Kus z Krakowa, obiekty i obrazy Natalii Bażowskiej z Katowic oraz Diany Ronnberg również z Gdańska składają się na zbiorową wystawę „Druga Skóra” prezentowaną w Gdańskiej Galerii Miejskiej 1.
Ideą spotkania jest rozwijanie współpracy gdańskich artystów z twórcami z południa Polski. Wystawa „Druga Skóra” jest pierwszą wystawą z cyklu „Północ/Południe”.

Natalia Bażowska
Artystka wizualna, eksperymentatorka. Poszukuje zależności pomiędzy świadomością, a podświadomością, szuka właściwej roli człowieka w naturze i możliwości porozumienia międzygatunkowego miedzy człowiekiem, a zwierzęciem. W swoich działaniach porusza kwestię egzystencji praktycznie w każdej płaszczyźnie. Wystawia swoje prace w kraju (m.in. Miejsce Projektów Zachęty, Warszawa; CSW Kronika, Bytom; Bunkier Sztuki, Kraków) i za granicą (m.in. Tabakalera, San Sebastian, Hiszpania; Blanca Soto Gallery, Madryt, Hiszpania). Stypendystka Ministra Kultury i Marszałka Województwa Śląskiego, w latach 2006-2010 prowadziła badania nad wpływem przekazów wizualnych na emocje, na Śląskim Uniwersytecie Medycznym (obroniła pracę doktorską w grudniu 2010).

Agata Kus
Urodziła się w 1987 roku w Krośnie. Mieszka i pracuje w Krakowie. Jest absolwentką i doktorantką Wydziału Malarstwa Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie. Dyplom w pracowni prof. Leszka Misiaka obroniła w 2012. W latach 2010-2014 była asystentką w atelier Pauliny Ołowskiej. Zajmuje się malarstwem, wideo i performancem. Jest laureatką wielu nagród i stypendiów, w tym zwyciężczynią Międzynarodowego Biennale Sztuki Mediów WRO 2015 we Wrocławiu (Nagroda Główna za wieloekranową instalację wideo Kochanka). Jej obrazy znajdują się min. w kolekcji Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej MOCAK w Krakowie oraz w licznych kolekcjach prywatnych w Polsce i zagranicą.

Kamila Model (ur. 1988 r.)
Malarka, absolwentka Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku. Dyplom obroniła w 2012 roku na Wydziale Malarstwa. W 2015 roku znalazła się na 22 miejscu w Kompasie Młodej Sztuki, rankingu dla młodych twórców kultury. W 2016 roku Muzeum Narodowe w Gdańsku nabyło do swojej kolekcji obraz artystki pt. „La Planeté Sauvage”. Dwukrotnie otrzymała Stypendium Kulturalne Miasta Gdańska. Jej ostatnie indywidualne wystawy odbyły się w 2015 roku w Pawilonie Sztuki i w Fundacji Rodziny Starków w Warszawie.

Diana Ronnberg
Szwedzko-polska absolwentka wydziału komunikacji multimedialnej na ASP w Poznaniu w latach 2004-2009. Obecnie doktorantka u prof. Grzegorza Klamana na ASP w Gdańsku. Laureatka stypendiów i konkursów video. W wolnych chwilach śpiewa i pisze teksty o tematyce egzystencjalnej. Umysłem uwikłana w badaniu linii, które tworzą wszelkie granice, sercem przebywa w lesie z żeńską częścią jej watahy.

Second Skin is an exhibition devoted to doubleness, alternative worlds, but also the relation with nature and the search for the sense of security. The group show features artists of the young generation from Gdańsk, Cracow and Katowice.

Diana Ronnberg moves deftly across a diverse range of styles and media. Her stage images acquire extremely different forms – from lyrical feminine photographs, to simple childlike drawings, to bold music videos of the duo Combi Cats, which she co-creates with Kordian Lewandowski. The artist also feels at home in the world of literature – she is the author of the book Sercem w lesie [By the Heart in the Forest]. Diana Ronnberg changes her artistic skin in a fluid and very convincing way, and therefore her works continue to strike the viewers as surprising. In turn, the work of Kamila Model is more balanced – her paintings are filled with bright patches of pastel colours. The shapes of abstract forms evoke the world of microorganisms examined under the microscope, which seem to flow in front of the viewer’s eyes. The artist’s paintings emanate tranquillity and present nature – the source of her inspiration – as a mysterious, safe and benign world. In formal terms, Model’s works bear resemblance to the delicate structure of the human skin. Or maybe the skin of an unknown extraterrestrial being? Another artist, Agata Kus, is interested in dualism, the second face, and deconstruction. Her large-scale paintings represent what seems to be everyday stories, which are real and surreal at the same time. The symmetrical reflection of the presented figures may bring to mind split personality. Or maybe just a sisterly relation with the mirror reflection? Or impaired, double vision? The seemingly simple narratives evoke a plethora of interpretative tropes, introducing the viewer into a parallel world of the protagonists of Agata Kus’ paintings. Natalia Bażowska creates paintings and installations that focus on human nature – human physicality and emotions. Her works often concern the moments of passage, the instants when we drop our old skin, but still have not made it to the other side. We are suspended in a safe cocoon, right before hatching out.

Second Skin is the first exhibition in the cycle North – South. The project showcases works by Tri-City artists in confrontation with artists from the south of Poland.
